WILD DOLPHIN ENCOUNTERS
|
Snorkeling and free diving during wild dolphin encounters you glide along side by side. Mimicking each others moves. A few of them will instigate tactile interaction with humans. They will rub along side of you or touch you with a fin. Some of these enjoy a gentle rub. Most of the dolphin prefers if you swim with your arms down at your sides and not reaching out for them. So they can swim shoulder to shoulder with you. Their eye to eye contact is hypnotic. These wild spotted dolphins come to play with us of their own free will. It is a natural encounter with wild dolphins that are in complete control of the interaction. They can appear or disappear at anytime. Dolphin encounters can last from a few minutes to several hours each.

Little Bahama Bank has the largest population of dolphins than anywhere else in the Bahamas. White Sand Ridge on the Little Bahama Bank is a calving area for the Atlantic Spotted Dolphin. Water clarity is consistently better than any other location.
The area is only accessible by a live aboard boat. This is a boat you sleep, eat and swim from, similar to a cruise ship only smaller and more personal. A live aboard boat is the only way to get the ultimate in wild dolphin experiences. The dolphins live in the ocean, so for the best encounter you should live on the ocean in a comfortable and safe boat. Imagine waking up in the morning and going to bed at night with dolphins swimming around the boat. The Dolphin Dream is the only operator who offers night time dolphin encounters. Snorkeling with dolphins at night while they feed under twelve 500 watt lights on the boat.
Some might be concerned about living on a boat, worried about small spaces or seasickness. Seasickness is not as big of a concern as you might think. The Dolphin Dream is a heavy and very stable boat reducing our seasick customer percentage to below 5%. The Dolphin Dream departs from Florida, avoiding the extra flights and cost traveling to the Bahamas from the USA.
Guest need to be able to swim and snorkel. If you do not have any experience snorkeling, you may want to practice before coming on your trip. Try to go to the pool a couple of times and become comfortable with snorkeling gear. Even a few minutes of instruction and a little practice can enhance your trip with an increased skill level. Snorkeling instruction is also available on board if you wish. Good quality and good fitting snorkeling equipment is necessary. You want to play with dolphins, not be worried with a leaky mask or snorkel.
Your host Captain Scott Smith will introduce you to the Spotted Dolphin of White Sand Ridge, Little Bahama Bank. Captain Scott has operated the Dolphin Dream since 1980 and has logged more hours in the water with wild Spotted dolphin than any other human. His love and respect for these dolphins had led to a unique relationship. Captain Scott was instrumental in getting these dolphins to open up to humans. The dolphins now join him and his passengers for games, such as pass the scarf or the occasional petting. All with completely wild dolphins, no training or feeding. Captain Scott has identified, documented, and cataloged 3 generations with the same groups of dolphins.
