SHARKS! Dream Team Shark Encounters

Caribbean Reef Shark

The Little Bahama Bank boasts a thriving population of sharks, the most common being Caribbean Reef Sharks, Nurse Sharks and Tiger Sharks. We occasionally also see Hammerhead, Lemon and Silky Sharks.

Bullpen/Shark Feeding: This reef lies in about 60ft of water with trenches cut in the coral going down into the sand and is home to a number of Caribbean reef sharks. Weather we feed them or not, they are always there, cruising the reef. When we do feed them, everyone enters the water as group and is positioned in a semi-circle in the sand by a crew member. Another crew member brings down a canister of bait and dumps it on the reef about 20ft from the divers. The sharks enthusiastically attack the bait for the next heart-pounding 10-15 minutes or so. Watching these predators feed is truly a thrill! For obvious reasons the Bahamians nor anyone else spearfish in the area. As a result, the reef is loaded with Nassau grouper that add a little extra color to the dive.
